Ceramic Product Exports in China

Chinese ceramics manufacturing has a long history which can be traced back thousands of years to as early as 4,500 B.C. Annual production of ceramics in China currently generates revenues of approximately RMB 200 billion and accounts for about 70% of total world production. China now exports ceramic products to more than 200 countries worldwide.


Top 10 production zones in China

1. Guangdong Province comes first, with a registered total export value of $4.14 billion ceramic products in the first 3 quarters of 2013, a drop of 2.2% over the same period last year, accounted for 31.8% of total export value.

2. Secondly, Liaoning Province registered a total export value of $1.17 billion ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 27.9%, accounted for 9% of total export value.

3. In third place, Fujian Province has registered a total export value of $1.01 billion ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 16.5%, accounted for 7.8% of total export value.

4. Jiangsu Province had a total export value of $780million ceramic products over the same period, a drop of 5.3%, accounted for 6% of total export value.

5. Jiangxi Province had a total export value of $730 million ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 35.6%, accounted for 5.6% of total export value.

6. Shandong Province registered a total export value of $620 million ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 12.8%, accounted for 4.8% of total export value.

7. Chongqing City registered a total export value of $480 million ceramic products over the same period, a drop of 40.4%, accounted for 3.7% of total export value.

8. Sichuan Province had a total export value of $450 million ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 3.9%, accounted for 3.4% of total export value.

9. Hebei Province reported a total export value of $420 million ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 0.5%, accounted for 3.2% of total export value.

10. Zhejiang Province had a registered total export value of $330 million ceramic products over the same period, an increase of 158.3%, accounted for 2.6% of total export value.


Top 10 export destinations

Exports to the European Union remained sluggish, due to five-year anti-dumping duties imposed by the EU on China's domestic ceramic products in May of this year. Tariffs range from 13.1 percent to 361 percent. As a result, export of domestic ceramic products to the EU in the first 3 quarters of 2013 dropped 16% to $1.73 billion. This accounted for 13.29% of total export value. Over the same period, export of domestic ceramic products to the U.S. dropped 7% to $1.6 billion, which accounted for 12.26% of total export value.

Export of domestic ceramic products to South Korea dropped 1.37% to $504 million, accounting for 3.86% of total export value. Export of domestic ceramic products to Japan dropped 6.42% to $455 million, accounting for 3.49% of total export value. On the other hand, export of domestic ceramic products to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) increased 48.9% to $2.25 billion, accounting for 17.27% of total export value.

Export of domestic ceramic products to South Africa increased46.62% to $327 million, which accounted for 2.51% of total export value. Export of domestic ceramic products to Russia increased 21.5% to $251 million, accounting for 1.93% of total export value.

The export of domestic ceramic products to Saudi Arabia increased 9.8% to $513 million, accounting for 3.94% of total export value. Export of domestic ceramic products to Brazil increased 9.5% to $349 million, accounted for 2.68% of total export value. Export of domestic ceramic products to India increased 8.73% to $411 million, accounted for 3.15% of total export value. Export of domestic ceramic products to the United Arab Emirates increased 4.19% to $385 million, accounted for 2.96% of total export value.
