FOLLOW THE RAINBOW TREND IN DESIGN & INTERIORS
You may have noticed in recent times – many people have been placing rainbow pictures in their windows to help make us smile in these strange times
We associate rainbows with making us feel happy and they offer a message of hope. With their beautiful bands of colour “rainbows” have broad appeal and so often bring a smile to many faces. Rainbows express cheerful, youthful and fun vibes and no matter what age you are, they never fail to amaze – for they are a natural phenomenon that appear as if magic.
They have all round appeal and are actually a full circle – however on earth we only see half of the rainbow; hence we see the characteristic semi-circle we see and associate with the rainbow. Seen as a symbol of peace and hope “rainbows” often appear after a rainstorm when the sun breaks through the clouds. This not only provides us with a powerful message but a hopeful reminder that light follows even the dark times.
Rainbows can motivate us to continue and endure through these times by conveying hope – they are also said to be a symbol for good luck and good fortune.
In Irish mythology, they are even thought to be the hiding place for pots of gold.

The colours of the rainbow are light, bright, fresh and fun – because they are so rare, they elicit a sense of delight and the promise of sunshine with blue sky on the horizon.
Rainbows appear in seven colours because water droplets break white sunlight into the seven colours of the spectrum; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Each vibrant, beautiful and different from the next – conveys a message of inclusiveness and cohesion.
Rainbow demonstrates how beautiful diversity can be. The rainbow serves as a symbol of peace and serenity – feelings often evoked when looking at a rainbow. Colours can vary from bold rainbow brights to softer pastel rainbow shades. Colours can evoke different emotions – depending largely on a colour’s brightness, shade, tint or tone and whether it’s cool or warm toned. Rainbow colours are often associated with making us feel happy.
Red, orange and yellow are next to each other on the colour wheel and are considered warm colours. Warm colours often (conjure up) evoke feelings of optimism, happiness, energy and are also known to grab attention. The rainbow – brings together warm colours with cool colours green, blue, purple which are usually calming and soothing. The rainbow combines bright, warm and happy colours for instance orange and yellow with cool, calm colours like green and blue. Pastel colours like pink and peach can also have an uplifting effect on mood and cool toned pastels like baby blue, mint and lilac have a calming effect.
You don’t have to use the exact (and all seven) colours of the rainbow to follow the rainbow trend – just incorporate the essence, essentially cheery bands of colour.
